Research Interests
Dr. Mitra’s lab uses organic molecules in the environment to tell stories. Sometimes those stories revolve around understanding water quality at the coast; sometimes, the stories address how historical climate change may have affected wildfires. His lab was funded recently by the National Science Foundation to better understand how atmospheric soot may have contributed to the extinction of species across the Cretaceous-Paleogene boundary ~66 million years ago.
